Provide an essential health care service and build a thriving career. The medical transcription program trains students to transcribe medical dictation with accuracy, clarity, and timeliness, applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct. Students will be taught the grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology necessary to turn doctors' daily dictation tapes into clear, concise print and electronic documents. In addition to the online program, students will complete an externship through a transcription company, physician's office, clinic, or hospital. Graduates meeting the requirements of the American Association of Medical Transcription (AAMT) may sit immediately for the Registered Medical Transcriptionist exam (RMT) and Graduates with two years of experience in the industry may sit for the Certified Medical Transcriptionist exam (CMT).† Please note that students in the medical transcription program are required to complete an externship. Students must be able to accommodate the externship in their weekly schedules.
Students must complete all coursework, achieve a minimum grade of "C" or better in each major and core course, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to graduate.
†Although the program is designed to prepare students for various certification and licensing examinations, the University cannot guarantee students will pass the exams.
